What To Expect
How can physical therapy help me? A physical therapist can evaluate your condition and identify the source of your discomfort or dysfunction. Once you have been evaluated, the therapist will develop a treatment program usually involving some form of manual therapy, exercise, and modalities to encourage healing. You will receive instruction for a home exercise program as well as education on proper body mechanics and posture to help you prevent reinjury.
What do I need to get started? Illinois law requires that a patient obtain a prescription from a physician, chiropractor, dentist, nurse practitioner, or podiatrist in order to begin treatment. A physical therapist may evaluate an individual without this prescription, but to begin treatment we will need a referral from one of the above health care professionals. Call us to set up an appointment. We will usually be able to see you for your first visit within 24 hours of your call.
Does insurance cover physical therapy? Medical insurance usually covers physical therapy. Because each person's plan and coverage is different, check with your insurance company to find out your exact coverage. When you arrive for your first appointment, we will check your benefits and review them with you. If you complete the insurance form on the website and email it to us, we will check your coverage ahead of time.
What will I do on my first visit? Plan to come to your first appointment 15 minutes before your scheduled time so you can complete your paperwork before the appointment. Please bring your doctor's prescription, your insurance card, and comfortable cloths for the evaluation. If we are treating an injury to your lower body, bring a pair of shorts. A full evaluation of your injury will be conducted on your first visit. We will then discuss our findings with you, develop a plan of care, and get started on treatment.
