What is Pilates?

Pilates is a unique form of exercise training that focuses on developing strength in the core muscles that support your spine, shoulders, and pelvis and improving flexibility in your whole body. Over time, Pilates lengthens your spine and improves spinal alignment. Pilates training gives you a better understanding of how your body's musculoskeletal system works. These benefits will increase functional strength, improve posture, and improve your performance in other sports.

Pilates is not physical therapy—rather, it is a method of exercise. Individual sessions and classes are first focused on teaching the basic principles of Pilates and the precise movement patterns necessary to perform the exercises correctly. After this phase, Pilates sessions move more quickly to develop muscular endurance, strength, and improved coordination.

Choosing the right Pilates instructor is important. Andersonville Pilates Studio has only STOTT PILATES® certified instructors who have been trained to teach sessions that are safe and effective. In addition, our program is managed by a physical therapist who is also a STOTT PILATES® certified instructor.
