Back pain is one of the most common medical complaints we treat. Disorders of the spine outrank all other musculoskeletal problems in total numbers and in total cost associated with evaluation and treatment. Spine problems also are the second most common reason for physician visits.
It’s not surprising that back pain is so widespread. The trunk is the center of our motion, and a strong trunk is essential for balance, coordination, and strength. For the spine to remain healthy and in good posture, it must have normal mobility and good support from the muscle groups in your trunk. Research has shown that if you have back pain, you probably also have weakness and muscle imbalance in your trunk muscles and reduced flexibility in your back, hips, and lower body.
Andersonville Physical Therapy specializes in the treatment of disorders of the spine, pelvis, and TMJ (temporomandibular joint). We use mobilization to restore normal alignment and motion, and we give you an exercise program to increase muscle strength and flexibility.
